"Have you ever heard a loon's song?" asks brewer, Douglas Schuckers, when discussing the long journey he and his partner, Shelly Fisher, have been on most of their adult lives. "It's haunting," he adds. "It's impossible to ignore."
The same is true of an unfulfilled dream. A broken dream.
For Shelly and Douglas, that journey started when they were barely old enough to legally drink the very thing their dream is built around - their love of beer.
Even back then, they knew they wanted to craft their own beers and to own a business that would allow them to share the thing they loved with others.
It's been a heck of a journey. One that seemed close to being completed a few different times over the past two decades. To learn the whole story, stop by the brewery and hear it told by the people who've lived it. While your there, enjoy the tasty beverage they've been working so hard to create.
Although their story is full of broken dreams, that extra time they spent in pursuit allowed Douglas and Shelly the opportunity to find the right place to house such an important undertaking - an historic winery building that has its own interesting stories. It also allowed them the chance to learn several valuable lessons along the way and to get a few things right. The most important, of course, is how to craft delicious beers.
You owe it to yourself to check out The Brewery of Broken Dreams and taste the nine delicious brews currently on tap, including Crying Loon, Old Antics, Floating Leaf, and Unfinished Business (a Scottish-style ale, with a malt and biscuit-like taste and a background of toffee and caramel flavors, a beer that has its own story attached), plus their rotating seasonal ales.
You'll soon realize, some dreams really do come true.
