With four spectacular seasons, the Finger Lakes is a destination you'll want the right clothing for. To ensure that you're dressed for the climate when you visit, check out the weather chart on this page, and consider the following recommendations.
A layered look- With the wide temperature ranges in the area, dress in layers. Even in mid-summer, mornings may be cool, but afternoons quite warm. So pack windbreakers, fleece vests, light sweaters and jackets-anything easy to layer on and remove. During the winter, remember to dress warmly with hats, scarves, gloves and boots.
Since most of the region is best explored outdoors, you'll want to watch the forecast each day. Hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, sledding, cross-country skiing-there's lots to do for the outdoor enthusiast! So be sure to pack all your outdoor gear.
Remember, our main waterways were carved by glaciers, are spring-fed, and are very deep. So water temperatures rarely rise above a chilly 75 degrees. While the water is refreshingly cool, summer temperatures often reach high into the 90s. So don't forget your sun lotion and sunglasses. These waterways also provide an excellent opportunity to do some ice fishing in the winter months!
So many choices- If the weather isn't bright, there are many indoor activities appealing to every taste. Try a glass making workshop, visit museums, or tour a winery.
Our weather varies most in the Fall and Spring when the ground can be soft. So if you're planning on hiking or just being outdoors, pack extra pairs of shoes for the end of the day.
Most importantly, bring what makes you comfortable.
