Whether an expert angler or a first-timer heading out for a day on the lake with dad – the Finger Lakes are home to some of the best fishing in the northeast. Challenging enough for avid sportsmen, yet accessible enough for amateur and beginner fishermen – Steuben County's deep waters and riffling streams are perfect for a day outdoors.

Finger Lakes' Guide Services

Each year, more than 30,000 stock trout are released into Steuben County's lakes and rivers so that popular Finger Lakes fishing spots like the Conhocton River continue to promote healthy fish populations. Experience fishing in the Finger Lakes with one of the region's knowledgeable, licensed fishing guide services and or check out the locals tips for catching trophy fish in the Finger Lakes.

Steuben County's Popular Fishing Spots

Year-round, the Finger Lakes provide a challenging and rewarding fishing experience. The pristine, deep waters of Keuka Lake are home to Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Landlocked Salmon, as well as Pike, Pickerel, Lake Trout and Yellow Perch. For 22 miles, Keuka Lake's shoreline hides quiet coves and local hot spots known for creating the ideal temperatures and conditions for native fish species. Experts suggest that fishermen arrive in the early morning in order to enjoy quiet casting before the motorized boats arrive.

Free Finger Lakes Fishing Days

New York State offers Free Fishing Days each June for those new to the sport. Children 16 years old and younger can fish year-round without a license, but Free Fishing Days open the sport up to all ages without requiring a license.
