Glenn Curtiss Museum announces 2011 Schedule of Exhibits & Events
Hammondsport, NY - December 17, 2010 - The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum has announced its 2011 schedule of exhibits and events:
Now through February 20, 2011 - 20th Annual Miniatures and Doll House Exhibit
March 4 - September 5, 2011 - The Civil War Exhibit
March 5-6, 2011 - Civil War Encampment (Indoor) and tintype photographer Mark Richards will be at the museum
May 14, 2011 - Old Engines Day
June 4, 2011 - Indoor Yard Sale
June 30, 2011 - Naval Aviation Centennial Exhibit opening
July 2, 2011 - Centennial of Naval Aviation Festival
August 6, 2011 - Curtiss Classic Motorcycle Day

September 16-18, 2011 - Seaplane Homecoming Festival

November 26, 2011 - 16th Annual Miniatures Vendors Show and Sale
The Civil War Exhibit, which will open on March 4, will honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Heroes to the Hilt will feature Civil War swords and sabers and the men who carried them. The exhibit will also highlight two generals from the Southern Tier. Bronze sculptures by Ron Tunison, who has created several monuments for Gettysburg, will be on display, as well as a new Civil War painting by local artist Ted Williams.
Glenn Curtiss's accomplishments as the father of Naval aviation will be celebrated with the opening of a new Naval Aviation Centennial Exhibit on June 30. This exhibit will feature realistic figures of Glenn Curtiss and Lt. Theodore Ellyson, who was US Naval Aviator #1 and Glenn's student. These two will be seated in the museum's reproduction of the A-1 Triad. The original A-1 was built by Curtiss and was the first aircraft purchased by the Navy. The museum A-1 will be moved to Keuka Lake and flown for the public on July 2 in observance of the Navy taking delivery of the original A-1, 100 years before to the day.
