Steuben County Seeks Leaf Peepers

Corning, NY. September 15, 2009 The Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau is on the lookout for volunteer leaf peepers located throughout the county to help report the changes in leaf colors.

Many people plan their vacations around the arrival of autumn, making annual treks to various parts of the northeast in pursuit of Fall Foliage. With its tree-lined rolling hills, juxtaposed against fertile farmland, an assortment of streams, rivers and lakes, and lush vineyards, Steuben County, is one such destination.

In early 2009, the Steuben County CVB contracted Marshall Murdaugh Marketing to conduct an analysis of Steuben County's travel market which included two studies, one of which surveyed potential visitors. It's no surprise that, according to Murdaugh's findings, those who responded to the survey rated Steuben County as "one of the most scenic destinations, second only to Niagara Falls" and that one of the most important reasons past visitors chose Steuben County was "scenic beauty."

We're proud of the natural beauty to be found here and we'd like to ask residents who might share that appreciation to help us keep track of the change in foliage which we, in turn, report to I Love New York to help people plan their scenic getaways.

We're looking for "peepers" from all corners of the county, as the actual colors of the leaves and the swiftness of change is often remarkably different in each section.

Anyone interested in being a Steuben County Leaf Peeper, please contact the Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau by emailing group@corningfingerlakes.com. Each leaf peeper will be asked to email the CVB every Monday and to provide his/her name, location, percentage of leaves in the area expected to be changed by the coming weekend, predominate colors, and a few other details we can pass on to anyone interested.

For more information contact the Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau via the email address above or by calling 607-936-6544. Fall foliage has already begun and we could use your help!
