Steuben County Sets Willy Frank Day

Corning, NY. May 22, 2006 - The Steuben County Legislature has declared May 23, 2006 to be Willy Frank Day in Steuben County. Mr. Frank, who passed away suddenly on March 7th, was Chairman of Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars on Keuka Lake. More than that, Willy, as he was known, was a driving force in the Finger Lakes wine industry and a strong advocate for tourism in the Finger Lakes Region. A self-proclaimed workaholic, Willy traveled extensively to promote his products and the Finger Lakes wine region. He is credited with helping to grow New York state wines and especially Finger Lakes wines into a multi-million dollar industry.

Willy sought national and international recognition for Finger Lakes wines. His remarkable enthusiasm, dedication, and passion will be missed. Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars was named one of the 40 best wineries in America, (one of only two named in New York State). The winery was also recently named the "Greatest Wine Producer in the Atlantic Northeast" by Wine Report for the second consecutive year. The wines have won national and international wine competitions and have been served to international dignitaries at events at the White House and the New York governor's mansion.

Philip Roche, Chairman of the Steuben County Legislature made the announcement at a brief ceremony on Monday afternoon. He presented the family with a framed commemorative copy of the resolution proclaiming Tuesday, May 23, 2006, Willy Frank Day in Steuben County.
