On the heels of the highly successful opening concert in its new series, St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Bath will present its next offering on Sunday, February 12th at 4:00 PM. Bass-baritone Kenneth Anderson will perform "A Tribute in Song to Paul Robeson," assisted by Carl Johengen at the piano. Mr. Anderson will honor the legendary singer-actor, singer and activist, particularly celebrating his devotion to the Negro Spiritual. Part concert and part presentation, this performance will be both entertaining and educational for concert-goers of all ages.
Kenneth Anderson is noted for his exceptionally rich bass-baritone voice, and powerful musical interpretations. Legendary activist and folksinger Pete Seeger has called him "one in ten-thousand, reminding one of Paul Robeson." He has performed Robeson tribute concerts over twenty times, including at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center in College Park PA, SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Albany, Slippery Rock State University, and Edinboro University. In 1998, he was invited by the United States Postal Service to participate in celebrations marking the release of a commemorative stamp honoring the centennial of Robeson's birth.
Mr. Anderson has been honored for his remarkable work as singer and activist with induction into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society at his alma mater, SUNY Stony Brook.
This concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken at the door to benefit the Dormann Library in Bath. St. Thomas Church is located at 122 Liberty Street in Bath, near the intersection of Liberty and West Washington Streets.
