Community Heritage Festival

Experience history and fun in Corning on Saturday, September 10, 2005 when the Patterson Inn Museum presents the Community Heritage Festival, a "Whingblinger" of an event! From 10am until 3pm, come experience a fun day for the whole family featuring traditional skills and crafts demonstrations, a chicken barbecue, musical performances, a craft and flea market, and children's games. Admission is 3.00 for adults and includes all activities, including entrance to museum. Free admission for children 11 and under.

Visit with our skilled artisans throughout the museum buildings and grounds as they demonstrate hearth cooking, blacksmithing, lacemaking, chair caning, spinning, and more. Taste real churned butter on beaten biscuits or sample hand-cranked ice cream outside the log cabin. Visit our Country Store for homemade baked goods, jams and jellies and handcrafted gifts. Search for treasure in the quality flea market or find the right gift among the crafters in the Gregg School field. Wear your most elegant hat and compete in our Victorian Hat contest. Children will enjoy old-fashioned games, a pie-eating contest, and a sing-a-long. Regionally acclaimed local musicians will provide entertainment in the music tent on the lawn.

The Historical Society's biggest annual raffle includes a hearth-cooked lunch for two at the Patterson Inn Museum, art glass by Vitrix of Corning, a handcrafted wooden toy truck, an oil painting by renown local artist Tom Buechner, and a handmade Quilted Wall Hanging. Drawings will be held at 4 p.m. on the day of the event.

The Community Heritage Festival supports the Corning-Painted Post Historical Society, a dynamic, community responsive, educational organization that inspires community memory by linking our local history and heritage to contemporary life. The Historical Society is housed in the Patterson Inn Museum, 59 West Pulteney Street, Corning, NY.
