Erie Depot …

The 2015 Scavenger Hunt has ended. Check back in May 2016 for the new hunt!

Sure, the Steuben County CVB's primary focus of is on tourism, but we're also an excellent resource for local residents when it comes to discovering "hidden gems," exciting events, and fun things to see and do throughout the area which is why we've decided to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week in Corning & the Southern Finger Lakes with a Scavenger Hunt from May 2nd - 10th.

Scavenger Hunters, residents and tourists who participate in the hunt, can be entered into a drawing with a chance to win one of four cool prizes and one grand prize, consisting of a Find Corning FLX Overnight Getaway, sponsored by Keuka Watersports, AgeLess Spa, Hands-On Glass Studio, Steuben Brewing Company, Heron Hill Winery, and Radisson Hotel Corning.

Scavenger Hunters will be required to visit at least 6 of the 10 possible sites, see list below. Each Scavenger Hunter can get up to three entries in the drawing for prizes.

  1. Visit six or more sites and submit responses to the clues = one drawing entry.
  2. Visit six or more sites, submit responses to the clues, and take a "selfie" at each site visited and include #FindCorningFLX in your post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram = one additional drawing entry. These are the only three channels we will be monitoring.
  3. Visit all 10 possible sites + the Kiosk at I-86E at the Campbell Rest Stop, submit responses to the clues = an additional drawing entry.

The Corning Museum of Glass (#1)
Name one of the three contemporary glass pieces that a person would see if they were wearing Karen LaMonte's Evening Dress with Shawl.

The Rockwell Museum (#2)
Look a little closer at Thomas Moran's "Clouds in the Canyon" painting. Do you see the artist's signature? There is one more proof of authenticity in addition to his signature. What do you see?

Heritage Village of the Southern Finger Lakes (#3)
When you enter the Starr Barn, you will find a plow, a yoke, and two of these hanging from the ceiling.

Glenn H. Curtiss Museum (#4)
If you are looking at a 1910 Pullman automobile, what is directly behind you?

Finger Lakes Boating Museum (#5)
How many boat builders are on the map at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum?

Hornell Erie Depot Museum (#6)
Looking at the "Train Man" in the museum, what is behind him?

The Canisteo Living Sign (#7)
Stand on the edge of Greenwood Street at the entrance to the Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary School parking lot and look up at the world's largest living sign. There's a wooden telephone pole immediately to your right. What metal ID number is on the pole?

The Bath Fish Hatchery (#8)
The present hatchery building is not the original structure. The original building burned down many years ago. What is the exact date when this happened (you'll find the answer after stepping inside the gate)?

Bath VA and National Cemetery (#9)
Drive around the center parade ground. What building number says G.A.R. on the front?

Hammondsport Information Center (#10)
When you step inside the Hammondsport Information Center you will find a "World Record" holder. Who or what will you find?

I-86E Campbell Rest Stop - Information Kiosk (BONUS)
When you step around to the back of the kiosk, the side furthest from the interstate, you will find two women on the map of the county. What are the women standing next to (hint, it's white)?

Participating media outlets that will be sharing Scavenger Hunt clues include WENY-TV, WVIN Radio, and Magic FM, and The Leader.
