In my last post I talked about all of the great things you can do as a family in Corning and the Southern Finger Lakes. But I can appreciate the fact that sometimes parents need a break. I myself am not a parent, but the older I got the more I realized my parents could have used a Holiday of their own. With all of the Holiday shopping, family coming into town, kids off from school, and the chaos that Holidays entail, it's essential for mom and dad to get to sneak away for some relaxation and down time. After all exhausted and run down is no way to start the New Year.
Looking for that relaxing setting to melt away all of the stresses of the year? Then look no further than the couple's massage available at the Ageless Spa located in the Radisson Hotel Corning. Spend the morning relaxing in the quiet, serene setting Ageless provides. After you've finished with your massage enjoy the afternoon doing a little shopping for yourselves and then treat yourself to a meal at one of the fantastic restaurants like Sorge's or Tony R's Steak and Seafood located right on Market Street.
Museums are a great family activity. It's a way to explore and learn with the whole group. But it can also be stressful. Growing up I know my parents loved to do things as a family, they still do, but let's face it a lot can be missed when you are making sure your kids aren't getting into trouble or touching anything. I know this from experience because whenever we would go somewhere our mom would always say "look with your eyes not your hands." Taking time to visit places like the Corning Museum of Glass or the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum kid free gives you time to really appreciate the great art, and historical memorabilia that you may have seen at quick glance or totally missed the first time around.
There are plenty of great places to take the whole family, but some are reserved for a more adult outing. I'm talking of course about all of the award winning wineries and breweries that the Finger Lakes have to offer. Grab another couple or two and take an afternoon and venture out to some of the wineries along Keuka Lake like Bully Hill and Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars, or check out some of the more hidden gems like Chateau Renaissance Wine Cellars and Point of the Bluff. Some of the best craft beers are coming out of the Finger Lakes region, and although I'm not a beer fan myself I can understand the outpouring of support and love for these local craft breweries. Visit places like Steuben Brewing Company, Brewery of Broken Dreams, and Market Street Brewing where they are wowing the locals and visitors alike with their brilliant brews.
Looking for a longer more in-depth break from the real world? Then a stay at one of the cozy Bed and Breakfasts might be just the thing for you. Stay at the Black Sheep Inn and Spa and enjoy a relaxed setting in one of their aptly named rooms, and then enjoy a delicious farm-to-table breakfast. Or stay at the Blushing Rose Bed & Breakfast where you will be just a short walk away from quaint shops and restaurants in the Hammondsport Village Square.
So to all parents I wish you a relaxing and renewing break. Go. You deserve it!
