I don't know how it happens, but every year the holiday shopping season seems to arrive earlier and earlier. One minute we're picking out Halloween costumes, and the next, the shopping malls are adorned with Christmas trees and twinkling lights. And bargains abound! If I see one more ad for a "doorbuster" before Thanksgiving, I'll scream.
So, that's why I like to dedicate all my energy to shopping (and spending) locally. I'll admit, I can be seen out with the hoards on Black Friday, but you'll also find me shopping local on Small Business Saturday. And I'm especially thrilled to be shopping local in Corning this holiday season.
"This year, Corning's Gaffer District is excited to be one of the key cities featured by American Express in support of their annual Small Business Saturday campaign," said Mike Melaro, Director of Marketing and Communications for Corning's Gaffer District. "We know that money spent locally stays in our community, and we encourage both locals and visitors to be a part of the movement and 'Shop Small' this holiday season!"
Last year we had all kinds of idea for unique, Finger Lakes gift that are still just as relevant this year. Check them out!
Another great opportunity to shop local and support businesses in Corning & the Southern Finger Lakes is the Holiday Art Trail from 12 - 5 p.m. on December 7. If you enjoyed the Arts in Bloom event last April, you'll love shopping at the same galleries and artist studios where you added beautiful creations to your collection earlier this year. With more than 10 stops, you can spend the day sharing holiday cheer, enjoying refreshments, and finding some amazing works of art throughout Steuben County. For more information, visit ArtsinBloom.net, or like them on Facebook.
Give your loved ones a unique Finger Lakes gift this year, and support local businesses in the process. Happy shopping!
