It's in the Water

It's only fitting, really, that the Finger Lakes Boating Museum would find a permanent home in a town nestled at the southern tip of Keuka Lake, which in the Iroquois language means 'Canoe Landing.'

You might expect that a region named for its magnificent bodies of water would have a long history in boating – including everything from boat building to the use of commercial boats for transporting trade and raw materials back when Hammondsport was still 'the frontier,' to steam boats offering tourists recreational cruises a hundred years ago, to leisure craft activities like fishing, sailing, canoeing, or rushing over the water at high speeds.

This museum even hosts beautiful destination weddings. With a historic setting and catering available, this is the perfect location to host your special day.

Located in several historic buildings that were once part of the original Taylor Wine Company, The Finger Lakes Boating Museum exists to preserve the boating heritage of the Finger Lakes, as well as to educate and to foster the continuation of boating activities throughout the region.

With a growing collection that currently includes 115 boats built by many of the regional boat builders of the last century, the Finger Lakes Boating Museum chronicles the significance of boating in the region with wonderful exhibits of vintage crafts and other related items, restoration projects and boat-building workshops, an assortment of classes, and fun events. You can even rent one of the majestic wine rooms for private functions.

Learn about the historic role recreational and commercial boating played in the development of the Finger Lakes as a desirable location for establishing businesses and towns and, later, as an ideal tourist destination. Just minutes from beautiful Keuka Lake, the museum has displays and activities for the entire family. Open daily from 10am-6pm, the Finger Lakes Boating Museum admission rate is $7 for adults, and free admission for members and children under 12.
